Google is looking for places to test ultra-high speed Internet, which would mean building fiber connections directly into homes and businesses. New Orleans is an ideal place for Google’s test for many reasons. We’re a mid-sized community, with a lot of creative activity that the world is interested in tapping into. Our music output runs the gamut from Dixieland to Traditional Jazz and beyond. The street scenes and architecture are part of why tourists come from far away. What if they could access our rich culture through an Internet connection?
Well, that would require the kind of fiber connection that Google is talking about building.
You can submit an application to show your community support by going to the Google Fiber Application for Communities.
We know we’ve got something special here, and people around the world know it too. We need to show the folks at Google (they’re often called ‘Googlers’ by the way), that New Orleans would be the ideal test for their fiber project. We are growing in all kinds of cool ways that include tech startups, education initiatives, new medicine, sports and film projects. But we need to band together to tell that story. Musicians, artists, doctors, city-workers and others need to say how they could benefit from a state-of-the art Internet system.
What can we do with a high-speed digital connection?
The rest of the world would love to find out. One thing is clear: this is the right place and the right time. We need to show Google that the choice is easy.
