Google’s initiative is designed to catalyze the United States’ transition to fiber optic networks, but how is this initiative going to do that?
Like the traveler in “Stone Soup,” Google is walking from town to town with its magic stone, promising a delicious meal, but first asking communities to show what they’ve got to put into the pot. They’re hoping that communities all over will realize they’ve already got what they need to make their own soup, and their demand will make providers roll out the fiber. That being said, Google wants to start off with a particularly impressive soup, and they lucked out; we’ve got a beautiful roux going.
As in the story, our fiber network will only be what we make of it, so tell us how you would use a fiber network in New Orleans.
